I declare that the whole world of Harry Potter is the sole property of J.K. Rowling and that this story was not written for profit.
The next day at school went like any other, except that people were gathering in clusters in the corridors and in the lecture halls too. She felt as if she were back in England and Voldemort had returned. Back then everyone had behaved exactly the same way, when that article about Harry and his mental health came out. She paid it no mind, it would probably reach her anyway.
Severus had a strange feeling. Every student was turning to look at him. He lamented that something must have happened. He wondered whether it had something to do with the ring on his hand, but not a single scrap of information reached him from the students to tell him what was going on. He taught at least four lessons and noticed the strange behaviour of some female students, who were slowly undressing him with their eyes. That had never happened to him. He had to undo one button of his shirt so he could breathe better. Around noon the dean's Patronus came to his office with an invitation to his study. Severus wondered whether it had something to do with that unfortunate incident from the day before.
When he walked in, the dean looked up from his parchment and settled more comfortably. "Coffee, Severus?" Severus shook his head. "What's going on, Phabius?" Phabius shook his head. "Through the school grapevine I've heard that you're seeing a student." His eyes fell on Severus's hand. "And you're married?" Severus frowned. "Yes, I'm married, but I'm not involved with any student. Who is it supposed to be?" He waited, even though he already knew the answer. "Samantha Golden." Severus's mouth twitched. "Really? Then, Phabius, I'll be honest with you. My wife studies here too. She's Hermione Granger, Snape to be precise, and now I'm probably in huge trouble, because she'll find out, of course, since this person is in the same year as her and very popular besides, so she can spread this nonsense very easily!" Phabius frowned. "So Miss Samantha lied." He leaned back in his chair. "Did something happen?" And so Severus told him. "I was in my office clearing things off my desk, I'd decided to take Hermione to dinner, when Samantha came into my office. I thought she needed something, but she threw herself at me and kissed me. I pushed her away and added a warning that if it happened again, I would take her to your office, because I considered her behaviour completely unacceptable. Not even my wife would ever have dared do this! She promised we'd see each other again, I should have wiped that damned memory." He finished his story and slumped into the armchair. "Hermione will never believe me!" Phabius walked around the desk and said, "Look, Sev, I'll help you. If need be, I'll name her a liar, but you should think about no longer keeping secrets. For one thing, it rather annoys me that I didn't know you were married, and to your student on top of that. And for another, you must have hurt Hermione with it already anyway. Good Lord, if I ever did that, Lana would slit my stomach open, make me eat my own guts and then maybe mercifully finish me off..." Severus looked at him. "I'm sorry. You know about my past, it's a habit of mine. I feel that people need to know nothing about me. She'll probably think now that I didn't want to admit to her so I could seduce students..." Phabius burst out laughing. "Well, I've heard about that woman, by all accounts she's extremely intelligent and definitely has a good head on her shoulders... She might still surprise you..." With that he dismissed Severus. Severus went back to his office with a dull ache throbbing in his head. He had to take a potion and face it head on.
Hermione's second to last lesson was Transfiguration. Her favourite subject back at Hogwarts. She was just thinking about how easy it was at this school. She already knew most of the spells and techniques. Of course, only because she had needed them when she was chasing Horcruxes with Harry. But even so, it was rather interesting. On her way she met the girl Grint had once introduced her to at the café. "Lucy, right?" The girl nodded. "Listen, Hermione, you know how I told you I've got a crush on the Potions professor? I heard Samantha went to his office yesterday and seduced him! But she admitted he isn't showing any more interest in her. Do you think I'd have a chance? I'm really in love with him!" Hermione stopped dead and looked at the confused Lucy. "So, Samantha, you say? Can you show her to me?" Her heart and head were empty. That's how much the thought hurt. She wanted to run home and cry into her pillow, but that wouldn't have been her. She had to pull herself together, so she tried to push the pain down and analyse the situation rationally. "Can you show her to me?"
Lucy took her all the way to her classroom and pointed inside at a strikingly beautiful girl. Hermione's heart flipped again. "Look, I'll be honest. Severus Snape is married. I doubt he'd give anyone a chance at more than a quick shag." And she said goodbye, leaving behind a heartbroken girl. She had already found out that Lucy wasn't pushy, but had a very sharp mind. She decided to skip Transfiguration herself and wait for Miss Gorgeous.
She sat in the university library and thought. It wasn't easy, because in her mind she kept returning to the person who had supposedly seduced Severus.
What was Severus actually like? She knew him as a reserved, grumpy and sarcastic professor who hated stupid Gryffindors. He hated catching someone out after curfew and intensely disliked finding lovers. He was a man who didn't hesitate to take points and who could drive students out of their minds. He was also a man who didn't take much care of himself. He had yellowed teeth and hands, shoulder length greasy black hair and piercing eyes. As for his clothes, you could say he was almost an ascetic. And yet he stirred not only fear in the people around him, but interest too. Hidden passions, you could say, because some members of the Order of the Phoenix literally hated him. She had seen just how much at the trial where he was accused of murdering Professor Dumbledore. Did she actually still know this man? She thought about all the changes he had gone through since she started as his assistant. First came the subtle straightening and cleaning of his teeth. Then the yellow disappeared from his hands. His nails started to be clean too. Then he set aside the outer layer of his robes, and it went on until he set them aside completely and wore just a white shirt with black trousers and shoes. He stayed with that change for a long time. In fact, three years had passed since the last change! Two years of her assistantship and a year of study at Hogwarts, before he came out with his hair cut into a modern style! Her heart stung again when she recalled the beautiful girl from the classroom who was trumpeting that talk around. People around her might think she'd gone mad, Hermione realised, because she started laughing like crazy. She remembered the day before, how Severus had suddenly pulled out his ring and run after her as if his heels were on fire! She smiled to herself and suddenly felt light, because it was clear to her that something had unpleasantly surprised Severus, and although he wouldn't admit it, it had apparently shaken his inner world. She narrowed her eyes as her vengeful side appeared and stood up, determined to find out how it had really been. One thing was certain, Severus would pay for it dearly!
Severus was ready. He had decided that when he got home, he would fall to the floor before Hermione and swear on anything that would please her that nothing had happened. He would do the housework, take care of her like a princess and publicly admit their relationship at school. In short, he would do whatever she wanted before she even said it. When he walked into the flat, there was nobody there. He felt his heart start pounding with foreboding. He turned on the light and went to look in the bedroom, but all her things were still in place. In the kitchen everything was the way they had left it. He made tea and dinner and put a warming charm on everything. He hoped Hermione would come home. He was afraid she wouldn't even give him a chance to explain. He was surprised at himself, once he would have shrugged and moved on, he would certainly never have lowered himself to letting it stop him in his goals. But now it was different. He wasn't a spy anymore. The only death threatening him was from the empty heads at school, or death from old age, and most importantly, now he had her and he loved her. He was afraid something would happen to her on her way to and from school. That she would fall in love with some classmate, or decide he was boring. That was actually why he had his hair cut, he told himself Hermione had to have a modern man beside her. Not some ageing, greasy, old fashioned patron. He heard the door click and stood up. Ready for the worst, he went to meet her and in the doorway he came face to face with a smiling beautiful woman who hugged him and kissed him on the lips. Severus didn't know what to think. Suddenly he found it hard to breathe! Hadn't she heard what those idiotic students were saying? Hadn't she heard a single rumour? Maybe it would be enough to explain everything? But Hermione didn't give him a chance. She manoeuvred him straight into the bedroom.
Severus walked backwards as Hermione pushed him and tried not to think. When his calves hit the edge of the bed, he let himself be pushed onto it. He lay in silence and watched her go to turn off the light. Then she waved her wand and lit several of the aromatic candles she was so fond of all at once. With another wave she turned on the radio, which was playing their favourite songs. Hermione began undressing to the rhythm, and Severus watched. His trousers and shirt were getting tight, so he undid both. Hermione came over to him, swaying her hips, and helped him take off his shirt, rewarding each undone button with a sensual kiss, here on his chin, there on his neck. Her eyes were glowing with sensuality, and Severus felt a boundless desire growing in him, leaving only an empty brain full of touches. She stepped away again so he could recover and pulled off her dress. She went on with her bra straps, and Severus responded by kicking off his slippers and trousers. Hermione smiled and sat astride him. Severus shifted and wrapped his arms around her. For a while he stroked her back, kissing her hungrily and running his fingers into her thick curls, before he rolled her under him and pulled off her knickers. Hermione exhaled sharply when he began caressing her with his hand in the place of her deepest and hungriest desire. She arched and breathed, "Severus..."
Long into the night he lay thinking. She hadn't heard it. She might hear it the next day. Should he tell her and use the element of surprise, or? No, he decided he would confess to her in the afternoon lesson at the university. He would surprise her and hope she believed him.

By day, I work somewhere between marketing, copy and campaigns; by night, I usually end up somewhere between fanfiction, cosplay and yet another “what if” that refuses to leave me alone. I write mainly in the Harry Potter and Mo Dao Zu Shi fandoms, most often Snarry, Snamione, HarryLu and WangXian. My healthcare background means that anatomy, medicine and far too much research occasionally find their way into my stories. Cosplay is another way for me to play with the characters I love, whether I stay close to canon or turn them into my own fanfiction and AU versions.
