Start here

If you've landed here for the first time, I completely understand that this place might feel like a wardrobe someone spent weeks stuffing with clothes, without any order, clothes they never ended up wearing anyway. Harry Potter is peeking out somewhere, danmei is lying on top of it, cosplay is rolling around underneath, and somewhere in between ADHD, a few recipes and plenty of other things I never planned to write about managed to slip in. Then something started nagging at me, I obviously thought about it far longer than necessary, and another article was born.
This website never followed a big content plan. I wrote about what I enjoyed at the moment, what I was reading, what I was making myself, or what I got stuck on so badly that it was easier to write it down than to keep it only in my head. This system makes surprisingly good sense to me, because I know where I threw everything. For someone who comes here for the first time, it might be a bit harder.
So if you're standing in front of that wardrobe right now and don't know what to pull out first, let me at least turn on a light.
If you came for the stories

Most of my fanfiction is from the world of Harry Potter. I originally wrote it all in Czech, but many of the stories now have English versions too. I'm primarily a Snarry person, so Severus Snape and Harry Potter get a bit of special treatment, but I also love Snamione, HarryLu and every now and then a pairing with so few fics on AO3 that you can almost hear the echo. You can browse them by pairing right here.
My English stories are all from the world of Mo Dao Zu Shi. If you want to start somewhere, try The Man in Red or In the Silence of Shadows, We Belong. You'll find all of them in Short stories.
If you'd rather listen

My audio stories are in Czech for now, but I haven't abandoned this part of the website. Recording a story turned out to be much more than sitting down in front of a microphone and reading, so I started looking for someone to do it with me. After a small casting in the Facebook group Nerdi sobě, Mimosa now has a new voice and another audiofic is already in the works. Which story it will be, I'll keep to myself for now, because I can leave you at least a little surprise.
If you wandered in because of danmei

Then you've probably already run into WangXian. I write my Mo Dao Zu Shi fanfiction mostly in English, and it wasn't some grand authorial decision I reached after deep reflection. I tried Czech and gave up. Names, forms of address and some fandom terms simply never started to sound natural to me, and after a while I realised there was no point fighting myself.
You'll find everything about Mo Dao Zu Shi on the Mo Dao Zu Shi page, and if you're new to danmei, Danmei terms explained might come in handy. And if you're only just finding your feet in fanfiction, my Fanfiction Guide explains AO3, the fanfiction dictionary and favourite tropes.
It exists partly because you step into danmei and within minutes you feel like everyone else got a manual in advance. Shizun, gege, golden core, courtesy name, several names for one person and abbreviations the fandom uses as if they were obvious. I didn't get that manual either, so if you feel lost at first, you haven't missed anything. It starts to make sense with time, and the things that don't, I tried to collect in the glossary.
If you'd rather have some fun

Quizzes are one of the newer things I've started enjoying. Mostly because I can take a fandom, poke around in it a little and then ask a few questions whose answers might tell you something about yourself you didn't really need to know.
You can find out, for example, which danmei world you would die in first, or what type of forbidden dynamic you're drawn to in Harry Potter slash. Apparently there's a surprising number of ways to get someone to pick an answer seven times in a row and then say something between "yep, that fits" and "I didn't want to know that". All of them live together in Behind the Writing.
If you're more curious about what goes on in my head

This is where the system falls apart a bit, because fandom thoughts, cosplay, writing, opinions and questions I can't settle with the first simple answer all land in one place. I often start with a tiny detail and two hours later realise I'm no longer answering the original question, but five others that grew out of it.
That mix lives in Thoughts, and to make it easier to find your way, it's split into three parts. In Cosplay there's for example Is it wrong to buy cosplay?, because it bothers me that the value of a cosplay should be measured by the hours spent at a sewing machine. I sew some things, unpick others several times, remake things and buy plenty without any guilt, so I'd be arguing against myself if I claimed otherwise. In Behind the Writing you'll find the glossary, the quizzes and my thoughts on how my stories come to life.
And then there's Diary of a Slytherin Girl with ADHD, where the fandom sometimes disappears completely. It's not a guide to ADHD, just my experience with my own head, because some things are absurd, some annoying and a few of them only funny in hindsight.
Stories I might never write

I've long had far more ideas than time to actually write them, and for a while I saved them all with the optimistic idea that I'd come back to them one day. Gradually I realised that my "one day" already has such a full schedule it would need its own planner.
That's how Unwritten Stories came to be. Blueprints, plot outlines, relationship dynamics, individual scenes and ideas I may never turn into a finished story myself, but it would be a shame to let them die somewhere in my notes. In English you can start with Cold Heartbeat.
If one of them grabs you, take it and write it your way. That's exactly what I love about fanfiction, because the same "what if?" can end up as two stories that have almost nothing in common.
Cosplay, but my way

My cosplays are a bit unusual, because I don't really do classic canon versions of characters. I got into cosplay through fanfiction and that's exactly where I stayed, so I love bringing to life versions that don't exist in the original at all.
That's how DragonJi, BunJi, FoxXian and my other fanfiction variations came to be, where I can play with how a character might look in a completely different story. It's actually the same principle as writing. I take someone I know, change something around them and start thinking about what stays and what can shift.
Then of course comes the practical part, where I find out that the idea in my head was much simpler than making it real, I unpick something for the fourth time, something can't be found anywhere and something looks completely different in real life than in the picture. But maybe that's exactly what I enjoy about it.
You'll find more cosplay in Cosplay and above all on my Instagram, because that's where most of what I'm making, finishing or trying not to destroy ends up.
And somewhere in between, there's food

Recipes might not seem to belong here at first glance, but I've given up explaining why this website should fit into one neatly defined box. When I love cooking something and feel like saving it here, it ends up here just like fanfiction or a reflection on a problematic character.
So if you got hungry along the way, have a look at Recipes. On the Asia and recipes page you'll also find reviews of Asian films and dramas and my notes on pop culture. To me it already feels completely normal that an Indian chicken sits next to an article about Snape, and if you've read this far, maybe it's starting to feel normal to you too.
So who is Mimosa?

If you've clicked all the way here and still wonder who stuffed everything into this wardrobe, the longer version is in About me.
In the very short version, I work in marketing, so a big part of my day is about texts, websites, campaigns, ads and all the things meant to make someone stop and read something or click on something. Originally, though, I have a healthcare background, and that part of my life never quite left my head. So when I hurt someone in a story, I unfortunately tend to start thinking about what exactly I did to them and whether they would survive it. Sometimes I research things for a single scene that end up as two sentences in the actual text, which is probably a very good description of my relationship with research in general.
On top of that I write fanfiction, do fanfiction cosplay, read a lot of things that give me more ideas, and sometimes think about everything for so long that it turns into an article. If this mix makes sense to you, you're probably in the right place. And if you'd rather follow just one part of it, you'll also find me on AO3, Instagram and TikTok, where the chaos is just sorted a little differently.
You don't have to read this website from the beginning, and you definitely don't have to go through all of it. Reach into the wardrobe wherever something looks interesting and see what you pull out. Since I've been putting it together this way for years, it only feels fair to give you the same freedom.
Yours, Mimosa
